COVID-19: How to Help
The Junior League of Collin County recognizes the unprecedented impact that COVID-19 is having on Collin County. We are working to compile a master list of all the ways that you can help your neighbors while protecting yourself and others from the spread COVID-19. Please continue to follow the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and World Health Organization.

Families and individuals in need of financial assistance for housing, utilities, and groceries are encouraged to apply for the Housing & Living Assistance Program HERE.
Economic assistance for cities and towns as well as free COVID-19 testing for the uninsured is also offered through the Collin CARES economic recovery and assistance programs.

COVID-19 CONSULTATIONS & SCREENINGS
- Baylor Scott & White App
- Baylor Scott & White is encouraging anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms (cough, shortness of breath and feeling feverish) or who has concerns about their risk of infection with COVID-19 to first take the screening questionnaire prior to scheduling an appointment, walking into a clinic or arriving at a hospital emergency department or COVID-19 specimen collection site.

- Children’s Health Virtual Visit
- Families can video chat with a provider right from home about illnesses, injuries and mental health. Visit the Virtual Visit web portal and create an account or download the app.
- Legacy ER & Urgent Care
- Legacy ER & Urgent Care centers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area has set up drive-through visits at their centers allowing patients to be checked by a physician without getting out of their cars.

- Under the #EveryoneEatz program, InFretta restaurant is offering free pizza or pasta, no questions asked, to anyone struggling during COVID-19. The Plano and Irving locations are both participating. Food will be served from open to close, seven days a week, with no caps on the number of meals they give out.

Frisco Fastpacs needs High Five Cards, which are 3″x5″ index cards with words of kindness, encouragement, or motivation to placed in our 900+ weekend meal bags each week. They ask that the cards not have anything political, religious, or an organization name. 25 cards made = 1 community service hour. These count as FISD Hours and can be dropped off at 10908 Brighton Lane, Frisco or at Frisco Fastpacs. Please place the cards in a ziplock bag with your name and the number of cards you made. Please fill out the sign up sheet inside the bin so you will get credit for your hours.

- The North Texas Food Bank is partnering with the technology platform Shiftsmart to employ workers who have suffered from lost income as a result of the Coronavirus’ impact on the economy; deploying them in place of traditional volunteers to help the Food Bank meet the need for food assistance in North Texas. This new arrangement will take place effective March 23. Workers will be packing family meal boxes that will enable our partners to change their distribution models to a “low touch” method. As of March 19, Governor Greg Abbott has announced an executive order to prohibit eating and drinking at restaurants, but many restaurants are offering take out and curbside service. Consider eating local during these restaurant closures.

- 211 Texas activated a COVID-19 option within the 211 platform. 211 specialists across the state are available 24/7 to answer the most frequently asked, non-medical, questions based on material provided by DSHS and CDC. Questions 211 specialists can’t answer will be referred to DSHS and local Public Health Department COVID-19 info lines.
- Communities Foundation of Texas Get Shift Done for North Texas Fund
- The Get Shift Done for North Texas Initiative was launched to employ affected hourly workers in the hospitality industry to perform shifts for nonprofit organizations and institutions trying to meet community demand during the COVID-19 crisis. The Get Shift Done for North Texas Fund was established at Communities Foundation of Texas to raise money to provide wages to hourly workers, who then serve volunteer shifts at local nonprofits, preparing and delivering meals for those in need.

- CFT has established the North Texas Community Response Fund, that will be used to support community needs in response to COVID-19. Donations to this fund will be used to provide support for organizations that work with people and communities who may be most affected by COVID-19. This will likely include support for individuals and families who need access to food and/or healthcare, supplementing lost wages and/or housing costs or support for agencies who work with vulnerable populations such as seniors and/or homeless.

- Periods don’t stop during pandemics. Feminine hygiene products are one of the most requested items in shelters across Collin County. In Texas, feminine hygiene products are classified as a luxury item and cannot be purchased with food stamps or any other form of federal or state assistance. Throughout the year, the Junior League of Collin County collects feminine hygiene products and disperses them to agencies in need throughout the county.
