JLCC is committed to raising awareness for preventative healthcare and the adoption of healthy lifestyles through the support, development, advocacy, and execution of services, programs, and opportunities which target children, adults and senior citizens.
Kids In the Kitchen
The purpose of Kids In the Kitchen is to educate the community at large on the growing issues of childhood obesity and poor nutrition. This project develops, promotes and executes the annual Kids in the Kitchen event in conjunction with the Association of Junior Leagues International, as well as offering hands-on educational opportunities throughout the year to children in small group settings. Through a variety of educational offerings, this project educates children and families on childhood nutrition and healthy lifestyles. Learn more about upcoming Kids In the Kitchen activities.
C.A.R.E.S. (Confidence, Awareness, Respect, Esteem & Strength)
C.A.R.E.S. supports the holistic approach that the Center for Pediatric Eating Disorders at Children’s Medical Center Plano utilizes in its treatment plan. JLCC Volunteers facilitate arts and crafts sessions twice a month for the patients. Children and adolescents with eating disorders are often socially isolated, and the purpose of this program is to offer a safe and nurturing environment for these patients to learn or reestablish their social skills.
